Bits of Randomness

Teething + Feeding = Fun! Over the past week or so our son has cut five teeth and has rightfully been quite miserable. I’m happy to report his general hunger strike is over and his appetite seems to have returned. However, meal time is still rather interesting. His gums are obviously still quite inflamed despite the IV of ibuprofen to which this kid is connected and he is not sure what to make of the protrusions now occupying his mouth. As a result, he has taken to barely opening his mouth when you present a spoonful of food to him. Fortunately, both my wife and I were good at Operation as kids.

Meat + Fire = Good! This past weekend was my friend’s annual visit from New York to go to the big golf tournament here in Charlotte. To me, watching golf is like watching paint dry, so when he is down we set aside one day in which we prepare an all day gastronomical feast. In years past we have cooked for eight to nine hours straight, but this year we decided to take it easy on ourselves. We stuck with simple food that we could prepare relatively easily and primarily on the grill. Just writing this makes me want to get the coals going again and toss a few more NY strips on. Good times.

Gymbucks are Evil: We spend, we spend, we spend. We spend here at Gymboree! We spend, we spend, we spend. They’re as happy as they can be! So, after our first paid month at Gymboree we earned our first Gymbucks coupon and I obviously wasn’t listening when they explained how they worked. We went to the store under the impression that you got $25 off for every $50 you spent. Seeing as we had some holes in little man’s summer clothes to fill and we have a nephew on the way, we figured this would be a good time to stock up on some things. Well, after accumulating over $100 of stuff thinking I was only going to spend $50, I had a rude awakening at the check out counter. However, the cashier was nice enough to properly explain how they work and offered to split my order and use another coupon that we happen to have with us. Gymboree 1, Me 0. Lesson learned.
