Grilling up summer fun

This past Tuesday night I participated in my first ever Twitter party. Jyl from Mom It Forward asked me to participate in a Girl’s Night Out (#GNO) sponsored by Lawry’s seasonings. The topic of the evening was near and dear to my heart – grilling. One of the things I love about living in the Carolinas is that I can fire up my Weber kettle all year round. Sure, I used to grill in the winter when I used to live in New England, but not all that often.

I’m the Chicken King!

Chicago may have Abe Froman the Sausage King, but Charlotte has me, the Chicken King!

Back in early March I wrote about my entry into my very first cooking competition in a post entitled Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner. Well, I’m pleased to report that yesterday my dish, Braciole di Pollo, was awarded the grand prize in the Perdue Verifiably Good Video Contest.

Birthday celebrations and burger bars

Last week was my son’s second birthday and this past Saturday we had a small gathering of family and close friends at our house to celebrate. One of the things I never understood before I became a parent, and still to this day don’t, is why some parents go berserk on their child’s birthday with themes, swag bags for guests and over the top celebrations.

Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

Well, I did it. I entered my very first cooking contest. In entering the recipe that I did I also took a big risk. Even though the rules of the contest didn’t stipulate that the recipe had to be something simple or easy to prepare, I felt no matter what it was necessary for my [...]

Being Michael Symon

It should come as no surprise that I watch way too many cooking shows. If it weren’t for football and the Food Network I wouldn’t have much need for a television. Last week, after watching an Iron Chef America chocolate and chili pepper battle between Iron Chef Michael Symon and Chef Duff Goldman of Ace [...]

Valentine’s Day Menu

I’ve made my thoughts on Valentine’s Day well known, so much so that I posted my rant twice. Despite my general disdain for the overly commercialized holiday that it is, I still enjoy making a nice meal for my wife. Last year I wrote post about our Valentine’s Day tradition, but I didn’t post my [...]

Can’t afford Barry Sanders? Then try this to spice up your Super Bowl party

With Super Bowl XLIV just a few days away I’ve been trying to think of things to do to spice up my game experience. This will be the first time in years that my fraternity brothers and I didn’t all get together for the big game, nor will I be making my famous Super Bowl [...]

The incredible dough with the funny name

If you’ve come around here with any regularity you know that cooking is a big release for me. I love trying new things in the kitchen and surprising friends and family. Back in the early of December my wife was working a stretch of third shift, which meant she got home a little after seven [...]

A new twist on a family holiday staple

Growing up we always made the trek to the north shore of Boston from where we lived in New Jersey for the Christmas holiday. The first stop on our trip was to my father’s parents, followed by my mother’s parents who lived less than an hour away in New Hampshire. Christmas dinner at my grandmother’s [...]

Primo or Secondo

If it isn’t overwhelmingly obvious at this point, I love a good risotto. This Milanese staple is the perfect canvas for any number of flavor combinations. On the surface a risotto seems like it would be a lot of work, however, as I proved the other day in my post risotto style pasta with shrimp [...]
