Mothers Day gift idea?

I decided to bake a cake for my mother-in-law ...

As we dad bloggers continue to gain prominence in the world of parent blogging it is inevitable that our little corners of the internet will soon be discovered by public relations firms. Once this happens you can expect a regular influx of pitches for a very wide range of products, programs and campaigns.

With Mothers Day fast approaching, a barrage of gift ideas have begun populating my inbox and one stood out so much so that I felt compelled to share it with all of you.

While there is still plenty of time to shop for a Mothers Day gift, you may find yourself struggling for gift ideas for the special mom in your life. Fortunately for me, and by extension, you, this helpful nugget should help clear up any confusion:

[Brand Redacted] is a versatile collection of chic, effortless knitwear for the modern woman. Machine washable, wrinkle-free, and color-guarded, the line is ideal for the active woman dedicated to style and practicality. Its separate pieces pair vibrant colors and bold patterns with fitting timeless neutrals, making it perfect for wardrobe building and transitioning from day to night.

Sounds innocent enough, right? Well, read on.

Our newest garment, Slendersize is constructed with built in shape wear to reduce the hassle of having to wear two garments. Slendersize works to smooth and contour and is available in pants and skirts.

SLENDERSIZE? Really? Tell me that they didn’t really send this to a dad and think this was a GOOD idea for him to consider as a gift for the mother of his children?

I can just imagine how this particular scene plays out:

(Cut to a dining room on a gorgeous Sunday morning, a Mother and Father are seated at the table amidst the remains of a thoughtfully prepared brunch while a simple, yet elegant arrangement of flowers adorns the table)

Father: Happy Mothers Day, honey. Thanks for being the best Mom ever.

(Father hands the Mother a beautifully wrapped package complete with bow)

Mother: Oh, thank you, dear, is this for me?

Father: Yes, I hope you like it. I picked it out myself.

(sound of wrapping paper being torn and box top flung aside)

Mother: Wow, this is beautiful, I love the color.

Father: I really like that color on you. It’s from [Brand Redacted]‘s new Slendersize line.

Mother: Slender what?

Father: Slendersize. (trails off)

(insert stunned silence)

Mother: So, you think I’m fat?

(sound of record scratching)

Father: Err, uh, hmm, uh, no, it’s just that, I, ummm, ah, got this email and ummm.

(Mother exits stage left)

Gentlemen, be careful.  It is pretty clear that this PR firm is trying to get us killed.

Good night, and good blogging.

Hilarious! I'm so glad that my wife and I don't do gifts for each other. Will have to think of something from the daughter, but will probably just be flowers or something like that!

Pretty scary, huh? Thankfully we don't exchange gifts either. I usually get something small from little man and then I cook for her.

I got the same email, I showed my wife the website and she did like some of the outfits. I'm already pimping sausage on my blog, I didn't think I should go the way of women's wear. o.O

There wasn't a chance I was pimping out something called Slendersize. I like all of my dad friends too much to sentence them to execution for suggesting they buy a product named that for a Mother's Day gift. If my wife wanted to buy that on her own accord, so be it, but it will be a cold day in gehenna before I do.

Don't forget to add on the Weight Watchers gift certificate to round out and complete your funeral preparations.

That actually made me laugh- and not just to LOL text-ease. Point made- do not mention slimming feature :) -Jason

Oh, that just hurts. Really, these people ruin it for the rest of us who actually have valid ideas to share. Not that flowers for Mother's Day are revolutionary, but if I emailed you re: flowers for Mother's Day, you'd see the logical connection without worrying about getting flayed by DW.
