Winner, Winner, Chicken Dinner

Well, I did it. I entered my very first cooking contest.
In entering the recipe that I did I also took a big risk. Even though the rules of the contest didn’t stipulate that the recipe had to be something simple or easy to prepare, I felt no matter what it was necessary for [...]

Tell Me Thursday: Not now Papa, I’m tweeting

The picture you saw yesterday was totally unscripted.  Actually, I almost missed the shot completely since my camera was not within my reach.  For at least the past three months our son has been infatuated with any gadget I happen to have in my hand.  First he would cry if I wouldn’t let him play with the remote, so I tried to do what I thought was the smart thing and gave him a remote I found that belong to a TV we no longer own.

WRONG!  Obviously, that is not the one Papa uses to control the big black box on the wall, so he wasn’t interested in it.  If my power cord is plugging into my laptop, then he loves to crawl over to where I’m using it, tug on it and bang on the keyboard.

His most recent fascination, however, is my cell phone.  I have this Samsung thing that flips two ways so you can text more easily with a full keyboard.  Somehow in no time he’s figured out how to flip it so it looks like he’s sending a text when he’s playing with it.  To avoid any tears I’ve stopped fighting with him over the phone and when he starts trying to get it from me I’ll generally turn it off and let him play with it.  I figured if it was off he couldn’t call Afghanistan or anything, so I’d be safe.  Well, the phone must have a feature where if you hold down any key for any period of time the phone will power back on, since I heard him dialing the phone while crawling with it in his hand.  So much for that!

You all probably thought I was kidding last week when I said he’d be the one in kindergarten complaining about the lack of a wi-fi connection on his iphone.  Well, unfortunately that may not be too far from the truth with this one.  It’s all good though, I’m a gadget freak and I guess it was probable that my son would become one too.

I don’t know what I’m going to do if I go through with my threat of switching to AT&T when my Verizon contract expires and actually get an iphone.  Once he sees that thing he may not want to be bothered with my lowly old cell phone.

I’m in trouble.

  • Your son is such a cutie! I'll have to try the old remote idea, as my daughter is also obsessed with remotes. I also have the same problem with my laptop charger! If she sees the MacBook in the floor she will roll across the entire living room to get to it. Thanks for visiting!

LOL that is 2 cute! All my kids had fascination with our cell's we have went thru so many over the years thanks to those little hands! Luckily we had phone insurance
  • I've got one just like that! She's five now, and, yes, she steal daddy's iphone to play with!
  • Hilarious. Our 15 month old is the same way. He now has a collection of three "play" remotes, two real remotes no longer in use, two "toy" cellphones and two discarded cellphones (mom and dad's old ones). None of them are nearly as interesting as the ones we continue to use.

I thought I'd keep some videos on my iPhone for when we have to sit at the doctor's office or such, but they don't work. He doesn't care nearly as much for watching the phone as he does grabbing it and shoving part of it into his mouth. Not good when you're talking about a $200 piece of tech.

You'll love the iPhone, though. Well worth the provider switch.
  • He just wants to be like Dad. That is a good thing even if it means sharing your iPhone.
  • The world does not have enough gadget freaks. Dont fight it ...give him more.

  • Awww... Hope you have unlimited texting! LOL Thanks for playing again!
  • LOL... you really are in for some trouble! Like father, like son. =)
