When we were mapping out our baby gear needs we started by picking out the infant carrier and travel system first. Once we made the decision to go with the Chicco system there wasn’t much choice as to what brands we would select for other major gear categories. We quickly settled on the highchair that matched our travel system, but to be honest I’ve never really been a fan of it. Why did we pick that one then? Well, because I have a matchy match problem, as my wife would say.
Yes, it is true, I need things to match. When both my wife and I drove Honda’s I was a happy man. Now that I have a Toyota and she has a Volkswagen it kind of drives me nuts. I’m not a collector by nature, but generally when I choose a brand I stick with it. For instance, I used to be enamored with Dell products, now I prefer Apple. I recently sold my Windows based laptop on Craigslist in order to purchase my first Mac to go along with my iPod and iPhone and now I’m more at peace. I realize that on the surface that this makes absolutely no sense, unfortunately it is just the way I am.
You’re probably wondering what in world this has to do with my son’s new highchair. Well, pretty much since we starting feeding him solids I’ve had buyers remorse over getting the matching highchair, but couldn’t bring myself to do anything about it. However, since little man is older and the travel system and stroller are in storage, we finally had the opportunity to right my wrong.
Now in all fairness the new highchair we selected for him wouldn’t have been very good for an infant just learning to eat solids, but free from my matchy match chains we were able to get one that is very flexible. The new highchair can be reconfigured to accommodate him as he grows up through his tween years when it probably won’t be cool anymore.
The best part about the new highchair is that it is no longer constantly in the way, as it comes close to replacing the fourth chair at our kitchen table. I guess you could say that it nearly matches it.
Uh oh, looks like I did it again.
