Summary

MAZDA RECALLS CERTAIN 2009-2010 MODEL YEAR MAZDA5 VEHICLES MANUFACTURED FROM JUNE 29, 2009 THROUGH APRIL 28, 2010. WATER MAY NOT BE COMPLETELY REMOVED FROM THE FUEL PUMP HARNESS CONNECTOR DUE TO VARIATIONS IN THE PROCESS. CHECKING THE FUEL TANK LEAKS BEFORE ASSEMBLING THE VEHICLE. THE CONNECTOR PIN MAY CORRUPT, POTENTIALLY CAUSING THE PIN TO BREAK.

Result

THIS COULD CAUSE AN INOPERABLE FUEL PUMP, ENGINE CRUSHING, AND INABILITY TO RESTART THE ENGINE, INCREASING THE RISK OF AN ACCIDENT.

Remedy

DEALERS WILL INSPECT FUEL PUMP CONNECTOR AND IF NECESSARY IT WILL BE REPLACED AND HARNESS REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE. THE SAFETY RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 11, 2010. OWNERS MAY CONTACT THE MAZDA CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER AT 1-800-222-5500.
