Auto shows usually offer a little more than early access to vehicles you’ve been reading for months. But every now and then, details so incredibly hot emerge that you can’t even begin to understand why God has chosen to entrust them to you.
At this week’s New York International Auto Show, Kia Motors America unveiled a 2019 Sedona Minivan, which – take a load of it – has totally new fog lights. These babies don’t even have much the same shape as the bulbs in the outgoing version. These old round piles are finished; we’re entering a whole new era of enlightenment, folks.
To be precise, the new Sedona actually has entirely new front and rear fairings but, after looking at the 2019 model for several minutes, the only noticeable improvement seems to be the fog lights. Which is odd because, compared to the old model, it becomes immediately obvious that the refresh has done some legitimate magic on the family wagon. Don’t believe us? Well, here’s a visual sample of the 2018 Kia Sedona:
Comparatively hideous, right? It’s like seeing identical twins but in a scenario where one is obviously a lot less attractive. A real example of this phenomenon would be Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, but we don’t have to tell you – it was certainly the first thought that crossed your mind. Poor Mary-Kate⦠or is it Ashley ugly?
Additional mid-cycle updates include the addition of an eight-speed automatic transmission and a new rear entertainment system to keep kids engaged in more than screaming. Replacing the single overhead screen of the previous model, a pair of 10.1-inch touch screens located in the back of the front seats. Also optional, the new entertainment system also has a smartphone mirror.
Otherwise, the Sedona walks into the relatively unchanged future. It retains the venerable 3.3-liter V6 and lacks the handful of tech upgrades that graced the refreshed 2019 Kia Optima, but only because it already had those features.
