Three Acura models and six Honda models earned Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) awards BEST SAFETY CHOICE (TSP) or better for 2022, eight peaking BEST SAFETY CHOICE+ (TSP+), including the all-new 2022 Civic Sedan and Hatchback. Contributing to the top ratings, each of the nine models earns the highest possible rating of “GOOD” in all six IIHS crash tests. Plus, all feature AcuraWatch™ or Honda Sensing® driver assistance and safety technology as standard equipment, earning “SUPERIOR” ratings for frontal vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention.
AcuraWatch™ and Honda Sensing® are now available or standard on all Acura and Honda automotive models, and there are more than five million Acura and Honda vehicles on US roads today equipped with these comprehensive suites of safety technologies and driver assistance, which now include Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with pedestrian detection; Forward collision warning; Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) incorporating Lane Departure Warning (LDW); Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS); and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC).
All Acura and Honda vehicles benefit from Honda’s exclusive Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure, designed to protect occupants in a wide variety of frontal collisions, as well as advanced supplemental restraint systems, such as seat belts front seat belts with pre-tensioner and the front, side, knee and side curtain airbags.
To win the 2022 TSP award, a vehicle must achieve “GOOD” crashworthiness ratings in all test modes, including the challenging passenger side small overlap test. A top-notch vehicle must also offer frontal crash prevention that achieves an “ADVANCED” or “SUPERIOR” rating in vehicle-to-vehicle and vehicle-to-pedestrian tests, as well as “GOOD” or “ACCEPTABLE” ratings for vehicles available. headlights although TSP+ rated vehicles must achieve the same “GOOD” or “ACCEPTABLE” rating for their standard headlights. Separately, each Acura and Honda model that was fully evaluated in NHTSA’s 2022 model year NCAP tests received an overall vehicle rating of 5 stars.
